Follow me 〰️

Inspiration doesn’t always come easy. I may daydream and get a vision. I may see a dress at the store and take a chance of finding someone with the look to make it work. I may run across a photo on my social media of a girl who I would love to photograph but be too chicken to ask. I beg the Lord all the time to put all the pieces together for me because He’s the master of creativity and always makes a way. Anyhow!

For this session, I took a chance of buying this dress online from H&M and waited for the right person and location to come along. I knew that the woman who wore it would have to trust my vision and be open to trying anything. God lined it up for Cassie’s family and I to have a reunion after not seeing each other for over 16 years. She was a little girl the last time I had seen her but who was all grown up now with the perfect look for my vision with this dress. I follow her on instagram and hoped that one day that an opportunity would arise for me to photograph her and her beautiful sister. (I’m working on her post next) Well, that opportunity came and I knew it wasn’t just a coincidence. Added to the opportunity was the AirBnB in Bradenton they were staying at which had this perfect spot for us to shoot.

As I edit, I get what I call downloads from heaven. Where a theme or a message comes into play with an image or a whole set of images. The words “Follow Me” kept coming to me and this was around Resurrection Sunday where we celebrate Jesus rising from the tomb where he was buried. This time of the year puts it in perspective for many that we get a chance to follow Him. We get to leave behind all our worry, all our troubles, all our pain and follow Him through the journey of life in a much different way. A better way. I hope you enjoy the images and thank you for taking the time to visit.

You say follow me,
but I’m not sure where you’re going.
You say follow me,
as if you’re leading me out
of the chaos and confusion,
but the closer I follow,
the thicker the clouds of darkness seem to be
and the less comfortable my life gets.

You say follow me,
but insist I leave “me” behind.
You say follow me,
but wait just a minute.
Let me look you over,
examine you and ask, “just who are you?”

You say follow me,
and my heart knows it’s what I was born to do.
You say follow me,
but my head has different plans.
It sees the storm clouds you’re brewing
and the confrontation that arises
wherever you go.

My mind makes up excuses,
finds ways to dismiss you and remain in the lead.
But you say follow me,
and I see the goodness and living water that flows
from the river you’re providing.

I see the beauty of your face
and if what you say is true –
it’s the greatest story the world will ever know.

But you say follow me
and it scares me because there’s still some doubt.
But does that doubt have anything to do with you
or because I know accepting you comes at a cost,
knowing that I’ll have to die to myself
and admit I’m lost?

You say follow me.

Grant that I may be willing to take up my cross.
